For each of the states listed below, their website for counselor licensure is provided. For licensure, most use the National Counselor Exam (NCE) although some use other exams in addition to or instead of the NCE.

In all states, the path to National Counselor Certification through the National Board for Certified Counselors is the NCE. And, many colleges and universities within each of these states also use the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) for their graduate counselor training programs.
